Hi! I have been struggling with unrequited love for about a year and I felt a prompting to seek advice from you. Any advice on this topic? Thanks and God bless!
Thanks for considering me! 🙂 The term generally applies to that type of love between man and woman, so I’m assuming that’s your case. I have never experienced unrequited love in that manner, but I have with a family member in the past (dad). Keep your heart open to other possibilities. If they have never shown any interest in you and it’s been a year, then I believe you should stop expecting that love to be returned. Don’t be a martyr. Stop chasing the heart of someone who does not in anyway show that same love you show them. Allow God to pursue you more before you do anymore pursuing.
I honestly don’t know enough of your situation. Are they Christian? Are you best friends with them? Do you both flirt with each other? Are either one of you in a relationship already? What makes you so attracted to this person? Do you know if they know that you love them? Have you told them how you feel and are you making sure your actions are louder than your words? Do you know if there’s something holding them back? Are they the one you want to spend the rest of your life with? The only advice I can give is bring it up to God, talk to Jesus about your feelings. If anything else is taking up more room in your heart other than the Lord, such as the desire to have your love reciprocated by this person, then you will lack guidance in how to approach this issue. This advice is simple but it’s the best I can give you…Trust in Him. Talk to Jesus more, everyday throughout the day. He’ll let you know how to communicate that love and care He wants you to show. God always knows what’s better for you, don’t put all your trust in people, expecting to receive what you think you deserve. Don’t forget that people are only humans and they will fail you, but when You consistently put all your trust in God, He will lead you to people who will appreciate you and value your time. Hope that helped, but I’m praying for you friend. <3
Psalm 118:8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
