(QUESTION RECEIVED FROM GodfirstGodalways)
Some church offers a RETREAT before BAPTISM, but others say, “retreat is not written in the bible”. So I’m wondering if we really need to take a retreat before baptism. I also asked them what does retreat for and they replied “to be fully present to God and keeping company with God.” But I think Revelation 22:18-19 and Acts 5:29 is very clear.
Thank you for this. 🙂 You have a good point. It’s true, retreat is not written in the Bible. But I could think of 2 very good reasons for it. 1, it helps raise money for a good cause and 2, it’s a great opportunity to fellowship and meet new believers who could very well encourage your growth furthermore…..which if you think about it is biblical. I understand your desire to obey no one else but the LORD, doing everything for a Him and not man.
If you haven’t yet, maybe you can pray about this…that the LORD will further convict you that what you think could become more of what you believe. I know you think Rev. 22:18-19 and Acts 5:29 is very clear, but give this a few times to pray about and make a decision based on what you believe God is convicting you in this relationship with Him. If you receive more peace with your initial thought then go with that, if you’re convicted that He is leading you to trust Him with retreat/fellowship, then go with that. Whichever one you choose, God sees your effort to do the right thing. Praying with you! 🙂
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
