(ANON QUESTION RECEIVED FROM GodfirstGodalways)

Hi, Shee. I hope you’re having a good day 🙂 Ive been struggling with how exactly to pray. My issue is I have a checklist in my head and I kinda make sure I say certain points in my prayer but lately it feels like I’m just going through the motions. I don’t know if I should change my prayer because then to me I don’t feel I’ve prayed “completely” if that makes sense. I don’t want God to think I’m trying to be lazy in giving him praise but I also don’t know how creative we can be. Thoughts? Thnx

Hello! 😀 I had a good day thank you! Thanks for this. Have you ever heard of the acronym ACTS? Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication? This may sound religious, but if you practice prayer this way, it really prepares your mind to be more humble. Adoration comes first because it’s important to put the focus on Him. Confession is second because naturally laying it all down to God will furthermore put you in a state of humility. You’ve got to be humble first before you even express how grateful you are otherwise it won’t sound or feel as genuine. Supplication comes last because you’ll be more confident that God is going to answer your prayers when all the others come before. If you’ve made a practice of praying throughout the day you don’t necessarily have to pray in this order, assuming that you’ve gained more confidence in God’s presence. This is more for praying in the morning and praying at night. Have you ever tried journaling your prayers? Sometimes when I journal first, it evolves into a very passionate verbal prayer. Try it. You can even pray about this. Express to Him how you just want to be more present while you’re having your alone time with Him, express to Him how you feel that you’re not really giving Him your all but you want to, so ask Him what He wants you to do, ask Him in what ways can you show Him more gratitude and praise. Tell Him all your troubles and worries and why they worry you, but also tell Him that you’re doing all this for Him and He will absolutely love your effort. Be present in how overjoyed He is with you. Hope his helped. 🙂 You’re in my prayers tonight!
