(ANON QUESTION RECEIVED FROM GodfirstGodalways)
if i pray for God to make me more loving towards others, and to make me selfless, will He do it? How long will it take? i really hate myself, i feel like im a bad person, and i just want to be selfless and from the heart
This is great! It’s an awesome desire to begin with. Understand that that is a blessing to have. You have no idea how much that pleases the LORD. No doubt He will hear your prayer and answer it because it is a righteous desire since He wants all He created to love Him and love others. Loving yourself truly and deeply is only the result when you put God first and then others. Too many people strive to love themselves first, so they put themselves first, but the effect of good feelings only lasts for as long as they are strong enough for themselves and themselves only. But when someone puts God first, you begin to understand that your strength is His joy, and His joy lasts because of peace in your heart. Go to Him when you’re feeling weak. All Christians should know to go to Him in prayer when they are weak. WHEN WE ARE WEAK, THEN WE ARE STRONG (2 CORINTHIANS 12: 9-11). THE LOVE OF GOD IS THE GREATEST OF ALL. THAT IS SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL.
1. Love God by believe in His perfect love for you. Accept it. Period.
2. You will receive peace and and strength knowing that it pleases Him. This will help you to care for yourself and see yourself as someone who is worthy of love, so you begin to respect yourself, not out of pride but out of God’s joy.
3. Biblically you’re supposed to love God first, others second then last…..but you will not be able to love others if you don’t even begin to know your worth in God’s eyes. So, accept His love for you, but don’t focus on you, focus on loving others, and the good that comes out of that blesses you with more love for you, the righteous kind of love.
4. Putting yourself last is not a bad thing as the rest of the world perceives it. It teaches you to be humble and humility opens many opportunities you couldn’t have otherwise imagined.
If you make Him your goal, you have everything good, beginning with how you perceive things, so essentially you become rich because you stop taking for granted what you have right now by turning it into something good. A TRANSFORMED MIND IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY BLESSINGS GOD WILL REVEAL TO YOU IF YOU CONSISTENTLY FOCUS ON HIM THROUGH OBEDIENCE. SO, YOU HAVE BEEN CONVICTED, CONVICTED TO BE LESS ABOUT YOURSELF AND MORE ABOUT GOD AND OTHERS. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! YOUR PRIDE IS LEAVING YOU BECAUSE GOD IS GLADLY TAKING IT AWAY. IF YOU PRAY TO GOD TO MAKE YOU MORE LOVING, BE AWARE OF THE SITUATIONS HE PUTS YOU IN. HE WILL LITERALLY ORCHESTRATE YOUR DAY ACCORDING TO WHAT YOU ASKED FOR, WHETHER THE SITUATION IS GOOD OR BAD. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
Self loathe, guilt, pity, shame, all come from believing in Satan’s lies, it is a sin to hate yourself because you were made in God’s image. He made you with much love. Learn to see from His perspective how precious you are by drawing yourself closer to Jesus. Tell God in your prayer that you want to be more like His Son because it’s in His will we become more and more like Him. I’ve hated myself countless times in the past, but I’ve learned to use those times as a trigger to pray. It gets better and better the more you believe in God’s love for you. I pray as I sense Satan is about to shake my world, so I prevent hating myself for whatever reason. I do have occasions when I hate myself but it’s usually around the time before my period. Sorry if that’s TMI, just being honest, but overall it’s hard for me to remain in a state of negativity and hate what God has created if I focus on the fact that He made me for Himself. Nothing but love there. Everyone’s spiritual progress is different, but I can say that the more you desperately chase the heart of God, the more He will change your heart for the better because it’s His Son Jesus you want to be more like. It’s absolutely in His will that you will be transformed. So if I were in your situation, I would not waste another opportunity to pray, any time you’re feeling weak is an opportunity. Thank God if you’re reminded to go back to Him. Be thankful for your trials.
I hope these questions I’ve put together in June can help you….Journal Prompts for Loving God, Loving Others, & Loving Yourself. I am praying for you friend! <3
