Thank you for this and forgive me for replying just now. The only things I have ever been addicted to is Astrology and masturbation. I have overcome both thanks to the grace and mercy of God. I don’t know what it’s like to be addicted to alcohol, but I wouldn’t argue that it’s probably much more difficult to overcome. Please begin to look at prayer and lifestyle/diet as a powerful duo. What you feed yourself affects the way you think and what thoughts you feed your brain also has a big impact on how you behave. Put those two together, and with God all things are possible! I was a vegetarian for 15 years and it has done more damage to me particularly my brain more than anything….probably because I didn’t know what I was doing. I developed poor focus, memory, and sleep. And those problems made me have very bad anxiety. This is part of my second testimony. My first testimony revolves around forgiving my physically and verbally abusive dad. Anyway, I developed a passion for better eating habits because of my declining mental health. So I want to put this out there before I say anymore, that I have no training whatsoever in the health and fitness department. I retain my knowledge on nutrition through my mom (who is a registered pharmacist), also by reading health-related articles and watching videos, mostly Dr. Eric Berg on YouTube.
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is one of two components of fish oil…the other is Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA). All the alcoholics I know and have known either do not eat fish or eat enough fish, or do not supplement with fish oils. Most likely they also had a parent who wasn’t big on seafood too. What’s interesting is this is also a pattern with individuals who have ADD or ADHD. Besides prayer, fish/fish oil has been my brain’s lifesaver. When I ditched the vegetarian diet, I built up my intake to15-16 fish oils a day for 1 year, then reduced it to about 10 the next year, then 4-6 the next few years, and now I only take 2-3 per day. I’d like to mention that the fish oils I started off with were not good quality. Fish oil is also very good for alleviating anxiety and depression. By year two of taking fish oils, I started to feel like a genius. The better the quality the less you have to consume. I was taking mostly DHA though because it’s the one that’s more important for the brain. EPA is what’s good for heart health. Asians love their fish. Look at the Japanese for instance, they are so advanced, healthy, and they also have some of the oldest people in the world! Fish for life. <3 It’s interesting how the fish is also used to symbolize Christianity.
You have to detoxify your liver because it is what’s going to help you properly make use of the nutrients from your food. Alcoholism weakens the liver’s function making you deficient in the nutrients your body needs to help you refuse the cravings. MILK THISLE is the #1 herb effective for healing the liver. Other powerful antioxidants such as NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) and Grapeseed Extract are also great. NAC is the precursor to Glutathione. Glutathione is naturally found in every cell in your body but as we age we have less and less. It is the body’s #1 antioxidant, but it does’t recycle itself. With NAC, you increase your Glutathione overall. Taking Glutathione itself or eating foods rich in Glutathione will not increase them in your cells because it is naturally poorly absorbed by the digestive system. Glutathione supplements as in tablets or capsules are a scam. Go for NAC. I have also heard that KOMBUCHA is great for the liver and it helps that it tastes similar to alcohol.
You would help your recovery by eating healthier too. Fish oils work best with antioxidants (ones I mentioned above and general vitamins, particularly B vitamins and minerals). Fish oils oxidize in your system nevertheless…but with antioxidants they will last longer, so that your body will actually make the best use of your money. Fish oils would be a waste if you just took them by itself and still had the same eating habits. I would also advice you to find many people to pray for you and with you. If you aren’t already plugged into some kind of support group at your local church, please pray about it and consider it. Please do your own research and consult your doctor about these supplements I’ve mentioned. Here are my recommendations…..
